How to do everything you want

Have you ever noticed how you never have time to exercise, or meal prep or read a book, but somehow you’re all up to date on the Waling Dead? No but really, have you?

And I say this, while being on my 5th run of the Big bang theory, myself. So this is not going to be criticizing your safe harbors of relaxation and ways of escaping day-to-day reality, especially in this hard time. As a disclaimer, I’ll tell you to do something (to the extent responsible and not harmful for your health or budget) that keeps you “sane” and helps you to get through this hardship of an era we live in.

But if for some reason you feel ready to start something new or get back in the saddle here are some of my tips of how I try to view things in order to move forward with my plans.

1. Use your time as a currency

If you catch yourself spending time (pan unintended) on something that doesn’t bring you anything valuable in return, ask yourself “does this bring me forward to my goal?”. Imagine if your goal was to lose wait would spend your money on junk food? Probably not. This is the same concept, except that you regard your time as a measurable, marketable unit. If you feel fancy, try to imagine an actual value of your hour, and maybe try to something with that hour that can bring that amount on your bank account at the end of the month. Truth is, with technology and market trends, I feel like this world is rich in resources as never before in history, so it’s for us to get on this trend and discover our potential.

2. Get rid of clutter (material and mental)

Obviously, Mariecondoing your space is great, but go step further. Optimize things that you have to do and stop doing things that don’t bring you forward at all.

Here are some examples:

  • if you take vitamins, keep a bottle of water in and your vitamins in your bathroom so you can do it when you brush your teeth. That way you stock one habit on another.

  • If you run or just power walk, listen to an audio book while you’re at it, learn something new on your trade or just personally, the technology allows it today, think of #audible or #blinkist which are great platforms.

  • If you cook a meal, cut and prep more vegetables or meat or even dressings that can sit in the fridge or in the freezer. Of course not all things are good for it, but more than you think if you’re being strategic about your time. If it takes one hour to cook a meal, taking extra 10 minutes today, will save you 20 tomorrow. Now if you know how much your hour cost, calculate a fraction of it you saved by organizing your time spent in kitchen. Plus as a bonus you’ll probably end up eating healthier.

  • Get informed, my advice start reading and listening more to people who are progressing everyday, upgrade your community so that you can get successful in your life too. Success can be contagious.

3. To-do list is not a verdict.

While it’s good to keep track of your chores, to-do lists can get overwhelming. So I suggest to do a to-do list every two weeks and then for every day to time-block your time. And that means if your work for one hour then you only work, if you rest you only rest. If you are interested in neuroplasticity and brain programming than you know that our brain is a very powerful yet automated mechanism. If you try to accomplish several tasks at the same time, it will use it’s battery just like a computer with several tabs open at the same time. So by concentrating on one thing at a time, we help ourselves to do more. And if you think that there is not enough time in a day, don’t worry I promise you “what’s important is never forgotten”.

4. Your sanity is more important than your efficiency

If you don’t feel good, the rest doesn’t make sense. Take care of yourself first.

Have a good weekend and invest wisely in yourselves.
